You enter the village through a pathway lined with cacao trees, then wait for the beat of the tamtam drum before stepping inside. Boys perform the Bird Dance wearing headdresses topped with sculpted birds, followed by the Fish Dance with carved wooden fish. The Boat Dance brings paddles into the performance, telling the story of voyages to Atchin Island to trade for pigs. Women then take centre stage with a dance representing their role in the Namaki ceremony, the traditional process of establishing a new chief, complete with a fruit offering routine.<br><br></div><div>In between, you'll visit the village kitchen to try traditional food. Dishes change regularly but you might find purple yams cooked in bamboo with coconut, taro, or yams with coconut milk. You'll also be taken to the nakamal, the men's sacred space where boys learn kastom from an early age.
